Scientific Evidence for the Existence of God
The Big Bang Theory and the Beginning of the Universe
Modern scientists have discovered that the universe has a beginning. They found that, at its origin, the universe was merely concentrated energy packed into a small point called a “singularity.” This energy later expanded, giving rise to the current universe. The theory has been supported by many practical experiments, such as the discovery of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), making it the most widely accepted scientific model explaining the origin of the universe.
Now, if energy cannot be created or destroyed, then who brought about that initial energy and compressed it into a space smaller than an atom billions of times?
Astonishingly, the Holy Qur’an, which is divine revelation, describes this exact event in detail:
“Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?”
(Surah Al-Anbiya: 30)
If the Qur’an were not from God, how did the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ know that the universe was once a single, unified mass (a “ratq”)? And how did he know this would be observable to people, as the verse says “Do not those who disbelieve see”? Furthermore, the verse ends with “We made from water every living thing,” presenting a scientific challenge: if any life form is found that does not depend on water, the entire Qur’an would be invalidated. What a bold challenge.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics (Entropy)
This law states that all systems naturally progress toward disorder over time. That is, the universe cannot have organized itself on its own.
The question is: if the universe is moving toward disorder, then who initially created it with such precise order?
Fine-Tuning of the Universe
There are highly precise physical constants in the universe. If even one of these constants were altered by a minuscule amount, life could not exist. Examples include:
-
The force of gravity
-
Planck’s constant
-
The ratio of matter and energy in the universe
Scientists such as Stephen Hawking and Roger Penrose have acknowledged that this fine-tuning is extremely difficult to attribute to chance, supporting the idea of intelligent design.
The Complexity of DNA
DNA is the genetic code for all living organisms and holds more information than any known computer program.
Scientists like Francis Collins (head of the Human Genome Project) have indicated that such complexity is unlikely to be the result of mere coincidence. Instead, it points to the presence of an intelligent designer.
Information cannot come from nothing. If DNA carries structured information, then who wrote that code?
Human Consciousness and the Mind
The human mind has the ability to think, create, and grasp abstract concepts such as love, justice, and beauty.
If humans were merely biological machines, then why do they possess self-awareness and a sense of identity?
Philosophers and scientists argue that consciousness cannot be fully explained through chemical processes alone, suggesting the presence of a non-material soul.
Holy Scriptures Are Revelation from God
The divine books are the primary sources of guidance sent by God to humanity. He revealed them to His prophets and messengers to be a light and guidance, leading people to the straight path and clarifying right from wrong. These scriptures are divine revelations that carry God’s teachings and commands and explain His laws in creation.
Among these books are the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an. These texts contain numerous indications of the existence of God. The Qur’an, in particular, remains a living miracle to this day. It is the last book revealed by God and has been preserved in its original language for over 1400 years. Therefore, we will now focus on the evidence for God found within the Qur’an.
Why Is the Qur’an Considered a Miracle?
The Qur’an is considered an everlasting miracle for several reasons, including its linguistic, scientific, prophetic, and legislative aspects. Here’s a breakdown of its key miraculous features:
Linguistic and Literary Miracle
The Qur’an was revealed in eloquent Arabic, and it challenged the Arabs—renowned masters of poetry and rhetoric—to produce anything like it, even a single chapter. Allah says:
“And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant, then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah: 23)
Despite their linguistic prowess, the Arabs failed to replicate it, proving it to be divine in origin, not human.
Scientific Miracles
The Qur’an revealed scientific truths that were completely unknown at the time and only discovered centuries later. Let’s take one example relevant to our discussion:
Embryonic Development in the Womb:
“Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump, and We made the lump bones, and We covered the bones with flesh.”
(Surah Al-Mu’minun: 14)
Scientific Breakdown:
-
“Nutfah”: Refers to the fertilized sperm and egg.
-
“Alaqah”: Means something that clings; it matches the embryo’s attachment to the uterine wall.
-
“Mudghah”: Refers to a chewed-like lump, resembling the early-stage embryo.
-
“Bones”: The skeleton begins to form at this stage.
-
“Covered with flesh”: Muscles begin to wrap around the bones—this mirrors modern embryological stages.
Scientific Testimony:
Professor Keith L. Moore
One of the most renowned embryologists and author of The Developing Human, a textbook taught globally. After studying these Qur’anic verses, he stated:
“It is impossible that this information was known by anyone in the 7th century. This must be from a divine source.”
Dr. Marshall Johnson
Professor of Anatomy and Developmental Biology at Thomas Jefferson University, USA. He said:
“The Qur’an contains no scientific errors regarding embryology. Its descriptions align perfectly with modern science.”
Dr. Joe Leigh Simpson
Embryology professor at Northwestern University, he commented:
“The information in the Qur’an agrees with contemporary embryological knowledge and could not have been known at the time of Prophet Muhammad.”
Dr. Tejatat Tejasen
Head of Anatomy at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. After his study of these verses, he declared:
“After studying these verses, I believe the Qur’an is indeed a revelation from God.”
He later embraced Islam.
Prophetic Predictions in the Qur’an (Unseen Miracles)
The Qur’an predicted events that came true years later, such as:
-
The defeat of the Persians and the victory of the Romans:
“The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. Within a few years.”
(Surah Ar-Rum: 2–4)
Which came to pass as predicted.
-
The preservation of the Qur’an:
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian.”
(Surah Al-Hijr: 9)
Unlike other scriptures, the Qur’an has remained unaltered.
Legislative Miracles
The Qur’an established an ideal legal system balancing justice, mercy, and societal well-being, including:
-
Economic laws combating usury and exploitation.
-
Social laws protecting women and families.
-
Criminal laws ensuring justice.
-
Spiritual laws refining the soul.
Spiritual and Emotional Impact
The Qur’an deeply touches hearts—even non-Muslims—bringing peace and tranquility:
“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d: 28)
The Ongoing Challenge
Despite the passage of over 1400 years, the Qur’an continues to challenge humanity to produce its like, and no one has ever succeeded.
These elements make the Qur’an a timeless miracle that transcends eras and cultures.
If God Exists, Why Can’t We See Him?
Let’s simplify this with an analogy: imagine I’m a game developer, and I create a virtual world. I design the environment, characters, physics, enemies, and rules. The game characters are powered by artificial intelligence.
Can a character in the game step outside of the world I created on its own?
Absolutely not.
Can that character know what I look like or understand my nature unless I choose to reveal it?
Also no.
How do I communicate with the character? The answer: however I choose—maybe through another character, or through coded signs and commands.
Can I bring that character into my world? Yes, by copying its memory and transferring it into a robot in my own reality.
Now, if I can do all this as a human using a programming language, why is it hard to believe that God exists?
Conclusion
The question of God’s existence is not merely philosophical or scientific; it is a deeply existential matter that shapes our worldview, our values, and our inner sense of purpose. As we’ve seen, evidence of God’s existence can be found in logic, science, and human nature:
The laws of physics, the fine-tuning of the universe, the complexity of DNA, human consciousness, and the miracles of the Qur’an all point toward an all-wise Creator.
If the universe began from nothing—who started it?
If it runs on laws of perfect precision—who designed those laws?
If consciousness and self-awareness defy physical explanation—who gave us these qualities?
These questions lead to one conclusion: there is a Wise Creator behind all of this. He has placed signs and clues for us to reflect upon. Faith in God is not just a rational acceptance of evidence—it’s a natural, intellectual, and spiritual response to the ultimate truth.
As Allah says in the Qur’an:
“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?”
(Surah Fussilat: 53)
God has shown us His signs in the universe, in ourselves, and in His everlasting words. Now it is up to us—do we open our hearts and minds to see the truth, or turn away and remain lost?
